Pukka Owners Manual > Replacing the Throttle

Replacing the throttle

Remove the hand grip from the handlebar. You may need to use a screwdriver or spray a lubricant into the grip to loosen it enough to remove.

Slide the plastic spacer off the handlebar.

Use a hex wrench to loosen the set screw on the throttle and slide the throttle off the handlebar.

Remove the seat to allow access to the battery compartment.

Remove the two bolts at the bottom of the battery tray.

To remove the battery cover, slide the cover to the rear and lift.

Between the batteries and the seat post tube is the PWM controller. It is encased in an aluminum box that is mounted to the plate that separates it from the batteries. Locate the connector with red, green, and black wires. Disconnect this plug.

Cut the connector off of the throttle wire (be careful not to cut the connector off the wire coming from the PWM controller) and feed the wire through the rubber grommet at the bottom of the battery tray.

Feed the wire through the rubber grommet at the bottom of the motor mount on the swing arm.

Feed the wire through the eyelets on the frame.

Separate the wire from the bundle at the front of the Pukka.

To install a new throttle, place the throttle on the handlebar. Replace the plastic spacer and hand grip.

Slide the throttle against the hand grip and tight the set screw to hold the throttle in place.

Before attaching the connector to the end of the throttle wire, feed the wire through the eyelets on the frame and through the grommet on the motor mounting plate of the swing arm and through the grommet on the battery tray.

Attach the new connector to the connector on the PWM controller and insert the wires into the new connector so that they are opposite the same color wire. Be sure to insert the wires far enough so that they are secure. Test each one to make sure they do not come loose.

Tuck all wires underneath the PWM controller or to the side so that they do not get in the way of the battery cover.

Slide the battery cover down over the battery and controller. The yellow warning sticker will be at the rear of the Pukka.

The battery cover has two knobs in the front that slide into ? of the battery tray.

Insert the bolts through the holes in the battery tray and tighten them into the bottom of the battery cover.

Lastly, replace the seat.
